SUMMARY:Manetti Shrem Museum: Together Again\, 1960–2026\, Perspectives from UC Davis’ Fine Arts Collection
DESCRIPTION:Together Again inaugurates the Manetti Shrem Museum’s ongoing collection galleries. This exhibition highlighting the collection will be on long-term view\, accompanied by temporary exhibitions each fall and winter. \nThe ongoing collection galleries trace a history of art forged from UC Davis and throughout Northern California. By focusing on relationships of many kinds\, this presentation proposes that in order to understand an artwork in all its fullness\, chance encounters and long-standing friendships often matter as much as formal affiliations. UC Davis legends such as Wayne Thiebaud\, Deborah Butterfield and Bruce Nauman are exhibited alongside important regional voices that were once overlooked\, and the exhibition extends to the artists shaping Northern California today\, including Sadie Barnette\, Woody De Othello and Ruby Neri. Together Again builds bridges between who we were and who we are becoming at UC Davis\, and affirms the Manetti Shrem Museum as home to the complex story of Northern California art — rich in legacy and always in the process of becoming. \nThe collection will be open Wednesdays to Sundays\, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The location is the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at UC Davis. Admission is free.

SUMMARY:Teaching about Disinformation
DESCRIPTION:This presentation brings together Catherine Hatzakos\, Continuing Lecturer in the Writing Center\, and Matthew Conner\, Arts\, Humanities\, and Social Sciences Librarian\, to discuss tools\, pedagogies\, and learning outcomes for teaching about disinformation. Register here \n2026-2027 marks the UC Davis Campus Community Book Project’s 25th anniversary\, and our theme—civil liberties—leans into the Book Project’s legacy of promoting dialogue and engaging diverse perspectives and audiences. Our selection\, On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century by Timothy Snyder is a call to arms and a guide to resistance\, with invaluable ideas for how we can preserve our freedoms in the uncertain years to come. The Founding Fathers tried to protect us from the threat they knew\, the tyranny that overcame ancient democracy. Today\, our political order faces new threats\, not unlike the totalitarianism of the twentieth century. We are no wiser than the Europeans who saw democracy yield to fascism\, Nazism\, or communism. Our one advantage is that we might learn from their experience. Author Timothy Snyder holds the inaugural Temerty Chair in Modern European History at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. He is also a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna and the head of the academic advisory council of Ukrainian History Global Initiative. You can read more about the selection here.
